Northern Lights Over Remote Icelandic Mountain
Northern Lights Over Iceland – A Visual Meditation in Light and Silence
Captured by Dean Best | Best Calming Relaxation
Northern lights over a remote Icelandic mountain – part of Dean Best’s Best Calming Relaxation visual collection.
There are landscapes that demand attention — and others that ask for stillness. This photograph, taken under the glowing skies of Iceland, belongs to the latter. The image, captured during one of my journeys for Best Calming Relaxation, is a quiet meditation in visual form — later to be paired with original music for my ongoing video series, Relax With Dean.
Standing in the cold silence of Iceland’s countryside, I watched as auroras emerged slowly above a mountain range. A red-roofed house stood alone at the base of the cliffs — a perfect symbol of peace amid wilderness. The green and purple light above felt more like a whisper than a show, moving gently across the sky as if it too were trying not to disturb the quiet.
This image is more than just a photo. It was part of a deeply meditative moment, one that I knew would become both a still image and a soundtrack. For each photograph in the Best Calming Relaxation project, I create original piano-based music and ambient soundscapes to accompany it — not as background filler, but as a way to translate what I felt when capturing it.
My goal with Relax With Dean is to create peaceful spaces through visual and musical harmony — an invitation to pause, reflect, and let go of stress. This photo will be part of an upcoming 3-hour video, designed to support relaxation, meditation, or even restful sleep, with a composition that echoes the stillness of this moment in Iceland.
Visually, the photo blends balance and minimalism. The mountain provides stability, while the aurora’s motion adds softness and flow. The house adds a scale reference — a reminder of our smallness beneath the vast sky — but also, a sense of home. These elements are chosen with care, not only to please the eye but to calm the mind.
This kind of work is about more than aesthetics. It’s about helping people breathe more deeply. Whether you use these images for digital decor, mindfulness projects, or as background while journaling or unwinding, my hope is that they bring presence and peace into your life.
Thank you for joining me here. Whether this is your first visit or you've been following my journey for a while, I’m honored to share this moment with you. More visuals and soundscapes are coming — from the quiet corners of the world to the quiet corners of your day.
